A teacher 'thought she was going to die' when one of her Ugg ugg boots sale uk,
boots became trapped under the brake pedal - causing a head-on smash.
Vera Baxter, assistant head at Stretford High, ploughed into a Mercedes after veering on to the wrong side of Stockport Road in Longsight.
Moments earlier police officers in a patrol car had to swerve out of the way of the 49-year-old's Volkswagen Golf as she fought to free her right foot from her thick woollen boots.
Mercedes driver Jason Hoang, 33, from Middlewich, Cheshire, escaped with whiplash in the crash at the junction with Plymouth Grove.
Miss Baxter crawled free from the wreckage after tearing her boot away from the pedal in the aftermath.
An Ugg Boot like the one worn by Miss Baxter
She was arrested and charged with dangerous driving after having hospital treatment for cracked ribs and internal bruising.
Miss Baxter walked free from the dock after admitting the charge in a Manchester Crown Court hearing.
Judge Martin Steiger QC banned her from driving for four months and fined her £350 after accepting that material between the buttons of her Ugg ugg boots cheap,
'Cardy' boot had become snagged on the brake pedal.
But the judge told her that she bore responsibility for the October 30 smash because the risk posed by driving in the boots was 'entirely foreseeable'.
Judge Steiger said: "It was the defendant's choice of footwear that made her unable to control the vehicle when the crisis arose."
The English teacher told the court how she had got lost on the way back to her city-centre apartment in Vantage Quay at midnight after visiting a friend in Stretford, when she lost control of the vehicle.
She said: "My Uggugg boots sale,
boot got trapped at the traffic lights. "I suppose it was a freak accident - as I put my boot across the prong of the pedal it caught in the seams.
I attempted to free it with my left hand and then swerved to the right to avoid going into the back of vehicles in front of me.
There seemed to me more space on the right-hand side to avoid oncoming traffic.
"I can't tell you how terrifying it was. When the crash happened the airbags came out, I smashed my head on the steering wheel. I could smell horrible petrol smells, I thought the car was going to catch fire, I thought I was going to die.
"Basically I just yanked the boot out forcibly with both hands because I thought the car was going to explode. I pulled it out and the edge of the wool ripped.
"I threw myself out of the car, crawling to the middle of the road. I had had the boots for a year and they were my first pair of Ugg boots. It's a freak risk but I keep a pair of trainers in the car now."
The smash is the latest in a string of accidents caused by motorists wearing unsuitable footwear behind the wheel.
Motoring groups said a quarter of drivers admitted putting themselves and others in danger by wearing everything from high heels to flip-flops, Wellington boots - and even clogs.
And a poll by road-safety group Brake found 40pc of women admitted to having driven in high-heels. An AA spokesman said: "It is common sense that when you are driving you should be wearing appropriate footwear."

"We believe these near- and medium-term headwinds will constrain top-line growth over the next 6-12 months. Despite expectations for improved input costs, we believe the more pertinent question surrounding DECK is the sustainability of demand ? and while early indications are for a normal winter, we believe it is too soon to become constructive on the shares."

Carter,'s boot saves All Blacks against Ireland

New Zealand snatched a 22-19 victory over Ireland with a desperate 79th minute goal by Dan Carter as a bruising rugby Test
hollister hoodies, reached a nail-biting finish in Christchurch on Saturday.

The All Blacks were reduced to 14 men in the closing 10 minutes and were playing a lock at flanker, but the result gave them a 2-0 lead in the three-match series and preserved a 107-year unbeaten record against Ireland.

Six minutes from time, Ireland fly-half Jonathan Sexton had a chance to create history with the scores locked at 19-all
hollister uk, but his optimistic 50-metre penalty from time fell short.

That gave the All Blacks a chance to sweep back downfield, where Carter had one drop goal attempt deflected in flight by Ireland before he snapped over the winner.

A sell-out 21,000 crowd gathered for the match, the first Test in Christchurch since a series of devastating earthquakes laid waste to much of the inner city in 2010 and last year.

The chilly conditions were not going to deter a city desperate for quality rugby, and the revved-up Irish forwards rocked the All Blacks, the two sides sharing a try apiece with the boots of Carter and Sexton adding all the other points.

It was a vastly improved Ireland side from that beaten 42-10 in the first Test a week ago and the All Blacks were rarely able tohollister outlet,  unleash wings Julian Savea and Zac Guildford, who had created havoc in that encounter.

Instead with Mike Ross restored to the front row, Ireland came out on top in the scrum, soon gaining the ascendancy after conceding the first set piece and pushing the All Black pack around from then on.

Following a period of sustained pressure which tested the All Blacks' defence, Ireland used their lineout as a platform to drive at the line before freeing the ball for scrum-half Conor Murray to dart over for a 10th-minute try.

Sexton added the conversion and a penalty to have Ireland 10-0 ahead before the All Blacks were able to put their first points on the board through a Carter penalty.

As in the first Test, Ireland went offhollister,  the boil after the opening 20 minutes and as the All Blacks' intensity grew the home side forced errors at the breakdown, closing the gap through penalties.

Ireland went in 10-9 ahead at half time, but the All Blacks eventually unlocked the Irish defence when play resumed.

Sonny Bill Williams crashed into the Ireland pack and as the All Blacks piled in scrum-half Aaron Smith was driven over the line for the try.

Behind on the scoreboard for the first time, Ireland rallied with Sexton adding his second penalty in another strong attacking period that had the All Blacks scrambling to make try saving tackles.

But with that storm weathered, the momentum again swung the other way and Carter's fourth penalty extended the All Blacks' lead to 19-13.

Then Ireland came back with two more Sexton penalties leveling the scores.

Pressure mounted on New Zealand as Adam Thomson joined Kieran Read on the injured list, leaving them only two specialist loose forwards, and Israel Dagg was yellow-carded for a late charge on Rob Kearney.

But at 19-all and a man down, the All Blacks rallied one last time and Carter was there to seal the outcome.

AST VILLAGE - At a mere 4 months old, Odetta Hartman's path in life already started to reveal itself."She was singing in the back of cab," said Harman's mother, Doris Kornish, who started the East Village
hollister outlet, institution Two Boots Pizza 25 years ago with Odetta's father, Phil Hartman.Growing up, Hartman didn't realize the influence of her parents' pizza shop, which fostered local artists for decades - but the singer songwriter, now 22, said she sees the early influences in her first four-song album "Tally Marks" which is set to be released the this July."It was a gathering place where everyone could listen to music and eat funky food," said the songstress, who grew up with performances by local legends such as Phoebe Legere, labeled by some as the original Lady Gaga.Odetta Hartman, an East Village singer songwriter, will release her first album in July. (Odetta Hartman)Hartman and her other two siblings - all three are classically trained violinists - absorbed the creative atmosphere like sponges at the original store on Avenue A, according to their father."She was exposed to a lot of music there," said Phil Hartman, who recently helped fund a program that places historical plaques on significant historical locations."All of these fronts are moving now and I am really excited to see what happens next," said Hartman, who spent three days recording herhollister uk,  tracks in November last year with the song being mastered only days ago.Hartman plays mandolin, guitar and violin and is trying her hand at the trumpet and banjo. The four songs bounce from an R & B soul sound to somber pop and country to "an arty kind of singer-songwriter" track, she said.Embedded in the songs is the experience of an epic road trip Hartman undertook last year from New York through New Orleans and onto California, playing music with a friend in theaters, pubs, cafes and even homes along the way."Just hearings people's stories, that is what I loved about it," said Hartman. She kept a journal recording the entire adventure, the characters they met and the music they performed and overheard.Documenting America's song history is important to the Bard University graduate who confesses to "geeking out" on music research. Her conversation is dotted with references to this country's musical heritage, such as Alan Lomax, an anthologist who travelled the country in 1935 documenting folk songs that might otherwise be the lost."All of last year I was listening to these grainy, crackly recordings of harmonica players in deep Georgia or some finger-picking slide hollister hoodies, guitar on a random porch in Florida," said Hartman, of Lomax's recordings that inspired her own road trip. For the singer songwriter her home hood comes across often in her art. On Monday local director and childhood friend Matt Sukkar shot Hartman's first music video on the stoop of her family home. The video captures what Hartman and her friends have been doing for years - sitting streetside and making music."I have spent a lot of time sitting there playing music, interacting with random strangers," said Hartman. On a recent late-night stoop session, Hartman marveled at the vibrant mix of people who still fill the streets of the East Village."Every single person who walked by smiled at us or said something to us or interacted with us," said Hartman. Over the five hours a smartly dressed, but slightly drunk man asked for the guitar before belting out a Radiohead song, a war veteran recommended tunes and a woman with a voice like an angel "performed an Adele number.Despite classic East Village moments like that, Hartman acknowledges the changing neighborhood. Rents are up and artists are out."It is not feasible for me to be here financially,"hollister,  said Hartman, who suspects New York City will not always be her home. However, along with other young artists who grew up as East Villagers, the area's creative and progressive heritage will not be dislodged easily."I think the kids from the neighborhood have a lot of pride," said Hartman."We care about carrying on the legacy."

If Angie Young had known what was in store for her at a Kawasaki racing challenge in Las Vegas, she might have withheld her application. After all, she'd only raced two seasons on her drag bike. She'd neverhollister uk,  won any trophies or claimed any major titles in any competitions. But she had the encouragement of her friends at Anderson Motorsports and a determined spirit to keep her going .Her friends at Anderson Motorsports told her about Kawasaki's "Zero to Hero Challenge."The contest was designed to pit amateur drag-bike racers from across the country against each other to give them a shot at competing with nine-time American Motorcycle Association champion Rickey Gadson. The prizes: attend Gadson's racing school, appear on a show that will be aired on the SPEED network, and take home a new Kawasaki ZX-14R
hollister hoodies, racing bike and $ 6,000 in parts for the bike from Brock's Performance."I just had faith in her," said Shanna King, who works at Anderson Motorsports. "I've know Angie since we were kids. She's a very determined person. Whatever she wants, I try to support her because I feel like she can do it. "The first step in entering the contest was writing an essay. Entries were whittled down from 3,800 to eight finalists by Kawasaki judges and Gadson. Those entries were then posted online and the public had to selecthollister,  the final four.Young made it to that final, the list. She was the only woman. She headed to Las Vegas on May 9. It was only her second time to the fast-paced, wheeling-and-dealing desert metropolis, and this was a competition unlike anything this Anderson native had ever been part of."You enter these things, but you don't expect to win. When I first got out there, I thought, 'What are you doing here?'" Young said. "I was in way over my head. I had never been on a bike with that much power before. "That bike pulls in excess of 250 horsepower - a drastic increase her own bike, nicknamed Black Betty. Black Betty is a Suzuki GSX-R1000 and has 150 horsepower. In five days, with the help of Gadson's teaching, Young learned to handle that Kawasaki bike and she earned her National Hot Rod Association license, which required her to ride a quarter-mile strip on the track in less than 10 seconds. It took her several attempts to make that time, and the track in Las Vegas remained open past its 10 pm closing time to give her one more run at the qualifying time. She went on to beat out the other three challengers in the competition, and she beat Gadson in two out of three runs. At the end of the competition, she won the bike and was named "most valuable hero" by Gadson and the officials at Kawasaki,."I wanted it bad," Young said. "I was the underdog, to say the least."It's not the first time she's been an underdog. She has worked to raise her three sons on her own. She has carved out a niche for herself as a working artist. She has pushed ahead in a world of racing that is dominated by men. She's also trying to sell the Hollywood on an idea for a television series. That competitive edge is what led her into drag racing. She paints large murals and faux finishes on furniture, techniques she learned largely
hollister outlet, from her mother, Jan Carver.Young worked alongside her mother, also an artist, for years. On one of their jobs, a client asked if they could paint Minnie Mouse on the wall of a nursery.Young was a single mother at the time and jumped at the chance."I went home that night, and I painted Minnie Mouse over and over again until I got it right," Young said. "The next day, I went back and painted Minnie Mouse in that nursery and it was gorgeous."Young began painting pieces with a finish that looked and felt like snake skin. She thought the finish would look cool on motorcycles and cars. With the help of mentors, Young learned how to work with metal and auto parts. One of those mentors, Ken Nicholson, has spent 16 years teaching Young how to weld, rebuild cars, and to paint cars and other vehicles. The new painting style is where she earned the nickname, Ms. Slick-Wicked."Now, I've painted everything from baby cribs to dragsters," Young said. Her clients, people who hired her to paint the finish on their bikes, invited her out to the drag strip. In 2007, she went to her first race.It was then that another passion re-emerged.The first time Young rode a dirt bike was when she was 5. Her brothers taught her. That led to a dangerous habit as a teenager and she often got into trouble for racing when she wasn't supposed to."My mama has been trying to slow me down since I was knee high," Young said. The first time Young went to the drag strip in Greer, she was hooked."I love the sound of the engines," Young said. "I love to be around hot rods and hear them purr like a kitten."In 2008, with Nicholson's help, she restored a 1971 Chevrolet truck so she could race that. Then, Shanna King and the owner of Anderson Motorsports, helped her get a bike, Black Betty, race-ready.At the same time, Young began forming an all-female racing team: Slick is Wicked.Donna Blackwell, Ann Arnett, Beth Marie, Jennifer McAbee and Reah Smith are the other members of the team. They each race the Chevrolet truck and Black Betty. They've raced in Ware Shoals, Union, Atlanta, Rockingham, NC, Charlotte, NC, and Greer,.Since the team formed in 2008, they've also been pitching a reality show to Hollywood producers covering their dream of drag racing professionally.Young said she believes the win in Las Vegas could help Slick Wicked eventually reach a television audience."I'm hoping with this win that people will take Slick is Wicked serious," she said.Young has two dreams, wholly separate from any opportunities in Hollywood. She wants to reach a speed of 250 mph in a quarter mile, and she wants to be able to take better care of her boys.A smile never fades from her face as she shares those goals. She's been the underdog before, and she knows what it feels like to come out on top at the end of the race.At 40, she's used to dealing with challenges."I joke with people that I'm going to be 80, and I'm going to go out at 280 mph with my boots on in a blaze of glory," Young said, laughing and throwing her black hair back. "There's just something about going fast. "
